Concrete is the most widely used building material in the world. There are only a few things that we know about concrete, one it gets hard two it cracks after you repair your cracks you may want to apply an industrial coating or paint.

There are studies that have shown about 75% of all coating failures are because of insufficient surface preparation.

Several years ago, the International Concrete Repair Institute (ICRI) released a series of nine surface profiles. These profiles go from a thin prep CSP one to an extremely aggressive profile CSP 9. (see picture below)

As it relates to CSP one and two the prep method can be sanding with aggressive sandpaper or by using a grinder with a diamond stone attached. This is critical for your project to provide the results you are looking for.
